Setting Up and Using Subcategory Discounts

Overview

Subcategory Discounts is a new way to apply discounts to a specific subcategory.

It works by applying discounts to the items once the quantity threshold has been met on the order.

Example:

• Subcategory: Alstromeria

The order totals the quantity of all products on the order that match the subcategory and once the quantity threshold is reached, the discount for that quantity level for the subcategory will be applied to all of the products on the order.

It will not matter if a customer purchases several different Alstromerias. With this being a subcategory discount, once the number of Alstros has been met, the discount will automatically be applied.

The reverse of that is if any amounts are deleted, once they go below the thresholds set up, the discounts will be removed.

Please note that discounts are applied when they are added to the order and are not seen until then.

NOTE: The discount is applied to the sub-category without regard for which category it is in. If you have a discount set for a subcategory that is used in multiple categories, the category is ignored and the discount is applied to all products that match the subcategory

Setup

To set this up, you must first set the switch in Control Info > System Control > Sales > Misc tab:

Check the box for: Enable Subcategory Discounts.

Please note that ALL OTHER TYPES OF DISCOUNTS WILL BE DISABLED! Contract pricing will be applied but will not have the subcategory discount applied to it. It’s a “one-or-the-other,” not both set up.

Click on “Save”

In the main menu, go to Inventory > Product Filter Maintenance > Product Sub-category Filter:

You will see that there now appears a Discount area in the Sub-category screen:

Select the subcategory you’ll be applying the discounts to. In our example, we will select Alstromeria, and we’ll set up the discounts for it:

When completed, click on Modify.

After the setup, the subcategory discounts will be applied to products added to orders from that point forward.

Examples

On this sales order, we have not met the threshold of 10 units for our first discount:

Here is what happens when we add that next unit.

In the example above, once 10 units were purchased, a 5% discount would be applied. They are all different Alstros, but they are in the Subcategory “Alstromeria” and it is at that level the discount is being applied.

The next threshold we set was for 15 units to get a 10% discount:

That is how it works.
