Safely Shut Down your Virtual Server

It is important that if you need to reboot your physical server that you shut down your Virtual Server correctly first. These are the steps necessary to do that.

1. Open Hyper V manager on your Host Server. You may have one or more VM's

2. Double click on the Virtual machine and then click action Shut Down.

3.  Once it is shutdown you should see in Hyper V that it no longer shows running but shows shutdown under state

4. If you cannot shut it down from the action menu you can also login to the VM and shut it down as you would a normal computer

5. Once you have rebooted the physical server you need to restart your Vm(s)

6. Again just double click on the VM in Hyper V and it will restart
